Description/Scope & Content Transcript of "extract of a letter sent from Capt. (John B.?) Cooper, of the cavalry, to Charles K. Mallory, lieutenant governor, dated Armistead's Mill near Hampton, July 10, 1813" and received in Philadelphia on Saturday, July 17, 1813. The letter details atrocities committed by British soldiers in the Hampton area during the War of 1812. Also given are statistics on casualties and slaves "absconding" to the British Army. The transcript is two pages long.
